How to Repurpose content for Video reels & Posts

🚨 First: Repurposing Is NOT Recycling

Repurposing is not just reposting something.

Repurposing =
Taking one strong idea and repackaging it for a new format, platform, or objective.

It is strategic amplification.

STEP 1: START WITH STRATEGY (NOT DOWNLOADS)

Before touching any assets, answer this:

🎯 What Is the Goal?

  • Brand awareness?

  • Lead generation?

  • Sales?

  • Partnerships?

  • Community building?

  • TikTok Shop sales?

  • Email subscribers?

👉 If you don’t know the goal, you can’t repurpose strategically.


🎯 Who Is The Target Audience?

Review Core Mesaging doc. If you don't have one. Create one.  


Ask:

  • What keeps this audience up at night?

  • What emotional trigger moves them?

  • Guilt? Hope? Pride? Impact? Identity?


🎯 What Has Already Worked?

Conduct a mini Social Media Audit. On your content as well as competitors. Refer to Social Media Audit. 

Ask:

  • What posts had the most:

    • Shares?

    • Saves?

    • Comments?

    • Views?

  • Why did they perform well?

    • Strong hook?

    • Emotional storytelling?

    • Collaboration tag?

    • Strong visuals?

    • Clear CTA?

👉 Look for PATTERNS, not one-offs.

Example pattern:

  • Emotional storytelling performs well.

  • Founder voice performs better than faceless content.

  • Visual shots get high engagement.

Now we replicate those patterns intentionally.


STEP 2: ASSET INVENTORY (What Are We Working With?)

Before creating anything new, audit what already exists.

🔎 Audit Categories

1️⃣ Website

  • Images

  • Mission statements

  • FAQ copy

  • Impact stats

  • Partner quotes

Tool:

  • CSS Peeper (Chrome extension) to pull imagery

Ask:

  • Can we turn website copy into a carousel?

  • Can FAQ answers become Reels?

  • Can stats become infographics?


2️⃣ Instagram / TikTok

  • Old Reels

  • Carousel posts

  • High-performing captions

Ask:

  • Can we re-edit this with a stronger hook?

  • Can we cut this to 10 seconds instead of 45?

  • Can we change the CTA?

Example:
Old post: “We clean rivers in Guatemala.”

Repurposed:
Hook:
“If your bathtub was flooding… would you mop the floor or turn off the faucet?”

→ Use clip from founders podcast (2:20 reference)

That’s a new Reel.

Same idea.
Stronger framing.


3️⃣ YouTube (Goldmine)

Find videos that are long form. 

Repurposing Ideas:

🎬 Long-form → Short-form:

  • Pull 15–30 second clips

  • Add captions

  • Add hook text

  • Add B-roll overlay

  • Add emotional music

🎙 Audio → Reel:
Take founder audio and use it strategically.

Add text:

That becomes:

  • Reel

  • TikTok

  • YouTube Short

One clip → 4 platforms.


4️⃣ Testimonials = Trust Content

Example quote:

“We’re proud to partner with Tidey…”

Repurpose into:

  • Carousel slide: Partner spotlight

  • Reel: “Why brands choose Tidey”

  • Graphic: Quote over Guatemala photo

  • Case study post

  • LinkedIn post for partnerships

Strategic question:
Is this content:

  • For donors?

  • For brand partnerships?

  • For B2B positioning?

Always align repurpose with goal.


5️⃣ FAQs = Authority Content

Turn into:

  • Reel: “How do we prove your impact?”

  • Carousel: “5 Things That Make Tidey Different”

  • Story series: “Nonprofit Myth vs Reality”

Educational content builds authority.


6️⃣ Blogs / Emails

Turn into:

  • 3 carousel posts

  • 5 short quotes

  • 1 infographic

  • 1 Reel script

One blog = 10+ pieces of content.


STEP 3: THE REPURPOSING FRAMEWORK

Here’s the formula students should follow:

Take one core idea and repurpose it through 4 lenses:

  1. Emotional

  2. Educational

  3. Social Proof

  4. Action-Driven

Example Core Idea:
“We clean rivers in Guatemala.”


Emotional Angle

“Children are playing next to this river.”

Hook:
“You can’t unsee this.”


Educational Angle

“80% of ocean plastic starts in rivers.”

Hook:
“The ocean isn’t the source. Rivers are.”


Social Proof Angle

“Here’s what our partners say.”


Action Angle

“$5 funds X pounds of plastic removal.”


One idea.
Four strategic executions.


STEP 4: EXECUTION CHECKLIST

Before posting repurposed content:

✔ Does it have a strong hook in first 3 seconds?
✔ Is the text large and readable?
✔ Is there a clear CTA?
✔ Is it optimized for platform (Reel vs TikTok vs LinkedIn)?
✔ Is the goal clear?

If not — it’s just recycled content.


STEP 5: PLATFORM-SPECIFIC STRATEGY

Instagram

  • Emotional storytelling

  • Visual impact

  • Reels with hooks

  • Carousels for saves

TikTok

  • Strong hook

  • Fast cuts

  • Text overlays

  • Educational or opinion-based takes

  • TikTok Shop integration for bracelets

STEP 6: MULTIPLY OUTPUT

1 YouTube video can become:

  • 3 Reels

  • 5 TikToks
