How to update business description and category

How to update business description and category to increase relevance and local visibility.

Two key elements to an optimized business profile are a strong "About Us" section and the proper category listing.

Both of these points revolve around one main theme: Keywords

We want to make sure we have the keywords, or the terms most people are searching, listed on the profile wherever possible.

For the "About Us" section, the most important keyword is "Best ____ near me" (whatever industry they are in). Rewrite their "About Us" section to ensure that keyword is part of the first sentence. You can keep the same content they already have, but "beef it up" wherever possible including terms that people will search for to find their business. A strong bio should include:

-The main keyword people are searching for to find their business

- A list of services and/or products they offer.

-A CTA that invites them to call or visit their website to learn more.

Google also provides a list of "Categories" that businesses fit under. You can choose one MAIN category, and multiple SUB categories. Make sure their MAIN is the most relevant to their business, and include any other relevant categories as SUBS. Run a few searches for the clients key category, and see what other categories their competitors have listed. Those would be great additions to add as SUBS. Two great tools that can help you with this: GMBEverywhere, and Pleper. Both are chrome extensions that will show you all the most common categories selected by relevant businesses. Simply run a search on Google Maps, then click on the extension, and it will list the top results.
