Keyword Research Instructions

Keyword research is essential in SEO because it helps you understand what your target audience is searching for and how to align your content with their intent. By identifying the right keywords, you can:

  • Drive relevant traffic to your website

  • Improve your chances of ranking in search engines

  • Create content that matches what users want

  • Uncover gaps and opportunities in your market

High Funnel vs. Low Funnel Keywords:

  • High Funnel Keywords are broad, informational searches (e.g., “how to start a business”). Users are in the early stages of research and not ready to buy. These keywords help attract awareness. We use these keywords to write blogs that will help work leads down the funnel.

  • Low Funnel Keywords are specific, often with purchase or action intent (e.g., “best small business accountant near me”). These users are closer to making a decision, making these keywords valuable for conversions. We use these keywords to optimize product pages.

HOW TO COMPLETE KEYWORD RESEARCH FOR A CLIENT

Review the clients website or product offerings, and pick the top 4-5 most important products to them. Now, using Ahrefs or Spyfu, start researching keywords, or search terms people would use, to find each product.

You need to fill out 10 Low Funnel Keywords, and 25 High Funnel Keywords, for each product.

Once you have completed the research for each product, highlight the top 3 low funnel keywords for each product, and the top 10 high funnel for each product.

You will then choose ONE product to optimize for the client, targeting 2-3 low funnel keywords for that product, and writing 8-9 blogs about that product, with the goal of driving traffic to that product page.

Please review your progress with an SEO consultant before moving forward with your content briefs.
